Overview

08-2014

Commissioned by Joh Bates, a designer of outdoor spaces, the design brief was quite simple…. A pair of ‘raw’ metal planters, red brown in tone but most defiantly not of a rust finish. The form had to be simple and solid yet retain a classic elegance too. The planters (positioned in a small inter office courtyard) have been used to provide a home for the beautiful Bamboo plants that offer a level of screening for Joh’s commercial clients.

After a few exchanges of ideas it was decided to proceed with 10mm thick solid ‘rough cast copper texture’ tub bodies, finished with a mid brown satin patina.

The planters also were to include a solid copper ‘spine’ to clamp the two tubs together as in the future they are to be separated and moved apart.
